Changing your profession is not easy, or is it?

I believe that the orientation of our professional interests has long been manipulated in order to fulfill a specific role in society, but not to develop our best capacities and talents.

Thus; while we are still immature, we are faced with one of the most complicated decisions of our lives, what are we going to study? But should it really be something that complicated?

To make my point, we must look to the foundations of our society, and the most important driver I see, is the generation we belong to. It has been shaped -with the best intentions- by the baby boomers, a generation identified for being dedicated, hard-working and courageous people, who laid the pillars that shaped modern life. But what identifies baby boomers, is the same feature that taught them that -in order to succeed- you must have a very specific career, that other skills or trades are never going to be profitable for a good way of living, at the end, it all comes down to having money. This culture has been passed down to our generations, which are forced to choose a career among a limited number of possibilities, in most cases very far from our true talents and passions.

Fortunately, it is never too late to discover and take care of ourselves without forgetting that we are still responsible of continuing shaping the future for our children with hard work, bathed with the passion to do what we love.

This is how at age 33, feeling suffocated by the weight of my responsibilities at work, I finally decided to visit The Manu National Park (I use the word finally, since visiting the park was a childhood’s dream, that I might tell in another article). This visit helped me to make two giant changes in my life: getting engaged and remembering how important nature was for me. Being that last reason the foundation for BluetifulPlanet by Alfredo Cornejo.

My old camera was the best tool to begin to achieve my dream, a life closer to the wonders of nature, where birds were the closest and most efficient messengers of nature’s shapes, colors and whims. The growing appetite for photographing them, for sharing their images with the world shaped this project.

It has been 3 years since I started this adventure, the path I have been walking is mesmerizing and it is just the beginning. I changed my old camera and now I am using semi-professional equipment. I read a lot about birds and researched all I could about photography, until I learned how to understand light, how to use dedicated software and how to interact on social networks. Professionally, I still depend on my knowledge in finances, but I am completely convinced that with more hard work and your support, this project will be sustainable and the passion for sharing my vision of nature with everyone will continue to grow and reach more people.

Cambiar de profesión o, mejor dicho, de oficio no es sencillo o, ¿lo es?

Creo que desde hace mucho que la orientación de nuestros intereses ha sido manipulada para cumplir un rol específico en la sociedad, pero no para desarrollar nuestras mejores capacidades y talentos.

Es así como, cuando aún somos inmaduros, nos vemos frente a una de las decisiones más complicadas de nuestras vidas: ¿Qué vamos a estudiar?, pero ¿debería ser realmente algo tan complicado?

Para explicar mi punto, debemos ver los antecedentes y el más importante ha sido la generación de la que formamos parte. Esta ha sido moldeada -con las mejores intenciones- por la generación de los Baby Boomers, una generación conformada por personas de gran coraje, entrega y arduo trabajo, con el que empujaron al mundo moderno hacia adelante. Ellos aprendieron que para “triunfar” se debe tener una profesión muy específica, que otras carreras u oficios nunca van a ser buenos para tener una buena vida y, al final, todo se resume en tener dinero. Es esta línea de pensamiento, que ha sido traspasada hasta las actuales generaciones, la que nos obliga a escoger una carrera de un número limitado de profesiones, quizás muy alejadas de nuestros verdaderos talentos y pasiones.

Afortunadamente, nunca es tarde para descubrirnos, ocuparnos de nosotros y al mismo tiempo, para seguir dándole forma al futuro con trabajo arduo, regado con la pasión de hacer lo que nos gusta.

Es así como a los 33 años, sintiéndome asfixiado por el peso de mis responsabilidades laborales, decido por fin visitar el Parque Nacional del Manu (y digo por fin, ya que fue un sueño desde mi niñez que quizás en otro artículo del blog cuente). Esta visita, me sirvió para dar dos cambios gigantes en mi vida: comprometerme en matrimonio y recordar lo importante que era -para mí- la naturaleza y es a partir de esto último, que se empieza a gestar BluetifulPlanet by Alfredo Cornejo.

Mi vieja cámara fue la mejor herramienta para empezar a alcanzar ese sueño de una vida más cerca de las maravillas de la naturaleza y fueron las aves los visitantes más cercanos y eficientes mensajeros de los colores, formas y otros caprichos de la naturaleza. El apetito por fotografiarlos, por compartir sus imágenes con el mundo, continuó dándole forma a este proyecto.

Han pasado 3 años desde que empecé, es un lindo camino y aún estoy al inicio. Cambié mi vieja cámara y ahora utilizo un equipo semiprofesional. Leí mucho acerca de aves e investigué todo lo que pude de fotografía hasta que aprendí cómo entender la luz, a usar los softwares de revelado e interactuar con las redes sociales. Profesionalmente, sigo dependiendo de mis conocimientos en el rubro financiero, pero estoy convencido de que con más trabajo y tu apoyo, este proyecto será sostenible y mi pasión por compartir con todos mi visión de la naturaleza seguirá creciendo y llegando a más personas.
